UE PROJECTS

Project title:" Development of a technology to produce new biodegradable packaging from biopolymers for the cosmetics industry" carried out under the Action 1.1: R&D projects of enterprises within the Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014-2020 co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

The main objective of the project is to develop a technology to produce fully biodegradable, specialised packaging for cosmetics using polylactide (PLA). The project is based, inter alia, on the research and development work results purchased from the Packaging Research Institute COBRO in Warsaw, as well as own experience (know-how) of the team that will implement the project. The production of biodegradable packaging for cosmetics from polylactide will be an absolute innovation on the Polish market. PLA packaging is produced abroad and not in Poland due to, among other things, considerable transport costs and a lack of adequate technological knowledge in injection moulding of this material.  PLA packaging is biodegradable under composting conditions and therefore does not require expensive recovery. In addition, it is an absolute hit on global markets in recent years. Taking into account the environmental aspect, consumers more and more often declare that it is very important for the product and its packaging to be pro-ecological. The results of the Project will contribute to limiting negative environmental effects through: the use of low and zero waste technology, the use of solutions guaranteeing the reduction of the amount of pollutants discharged to the atmosphere, the use of material completely safe for human health and living organisms; the use of material with zero penetration into the substance contained in the packaging, material that does not require thermal transformation causing air pollution, which replaces, and therefore affects less the production of polymeric materials lying in the environment for hundreds of years. The project will additionally contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In Poland there is practically no mastered technology of processing PLA packaging by injection moulding on an industrial scale. The project concerns product innovation with elements of modifying the injection moulding process and colouring finished products.
